The Rauch-Haus song is a song by the Berlin political rock band Ton Steine Scherben
from 1972. The song is about the occupation of the former Bethanien Hospital on
Mariannenplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg on December 8, 1971, whose nurses‘ home the
squatters named „Georg-von-Rauch-Haus“ – after the anarchist Georg von Rauch, who
was shot dead by the police on December 4, 1971.
The band was active in the squatter movement and directly involved in the occupation of
the Rauch House – the second squat in Berlin; Rio Reiser wrote the song during the
occupation. In the last chorus we changed the text and added references to current actors
of Berlin’s gentrification<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Der Senator war stinksauer, die CDU war schwer emp\u00f6rt
Dass die Typen sich jetzt nehmen, was ihnen sowieso geh\u00f6rt
Aber um der Welt zu zeigen, wie gro\u00dfz\u00fcgig sie sind
Sagten sie: „Wir r\u00e4umen sp\u00e4ter, lassen sie erstmal drin!“
Und vier Monate sp\u00e4ter stand in Springer’s hei\u00dfem Blatt
Dass Georg-von-Rauch-Haus hat eine Bombenwerkstatt
Und die deutlichen Beweise sind zehn leere Flaschen Wein
Und zehn leere Flaschen k\u00f6nnen schnell, zehn Mollies sein<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doch die Leute im Rauch-Haus riefen:

Letzten Montag traf Mensch Meier in der U-Bahn seinen Sohn
Der sagt: „Die woll’n das Rauch-Haus r\u00e4umen, ich muss wohl wieder zu Hause wohnen.“
„Is ja irre“, sagt Mensch Meier „sind wa wieder einer mehr
In uns’rer Zwei-Zimmer-Luxuswohnung und das Bethanien steht wieder leer
Sag mir eins, ham die da oben Stroh oder Schei\u00dfe in ihrem Kopf?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die wohnen in den sch\u00e4rfsten Villen, unsereins im letzten Loch
Wenn die das Rauch-Haus wirklich r\u00e4umen, bin ich aber mit dabei
Und hau den ersten Bullen, die da auftauchen ihre K\u00f6ppe ein.“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Und ich schrei es laut:

The senator was furious, the CDU was outraged.
That these guys are now taking what belongs to them anyway.
But to show the world how generous they were
They said, „We’ll clear it out later, leave it in for now!“
And four months later Springer’s hot paper said
That Georg-von-Rauch-Haus has a bomb workshop
And the clear evidence is ten empty bottles of wine
And ten empty bottles can be quick, ten mollies<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the people in the Rauch house shouted:
„You can’t get us out of here!
This is our house, finally throw out
Schmidt and Press and Mosch out of Kreuzberg.“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last Monday, Meier met his son in the subway.
He says: „They want to clear out the Rauch-house, I’ll have to live at home again.“
„It’s crazy,“ says Mensch Meier, „we’re one more again
In our two-room luxury apartment and the Bethanien is empty again
Tell me one thing, do they have straw or shit in their heads up there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n


They live in the hottest villas, ours in the last hole
If they really clear out the Rauch-house, I’ll be there too And bash in the heads of the first cops that show up.“<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I’ll yell it loud:
„You’re not getting us out of here!
This is our house, finally throw out
